We bring you an information-rich crash course with the points you need. I also have not seen many with the side lever as this has and the dog carved in the butt plate. Many upland hunters are rediscovering the beauty of vintage double-barrel shotguns. The serial numbers on the receiver, barrels and forearm match (4501) and the top of the barrels read "W Richards London Laminated Steel". I am not sure what the other marks reflect. Looking at the proof marks I think I can identify a Birmingham proof mark on the barrel under the handguard. The wood is in fairly good shape with a minor nick or two here and there. The lock plates and behind the forearm underneath on this have a fairly well made engraved scene of waterfowl - which I have seen in photos of other similar guns at auctions. Richards guns and they seemed of lower quality, with less attention to detail than this one I have.

I recognize this is likely not a Westley Richards firearm, but not sure which other "Richards" gun this is as I know there were a few using that name back in the day, some of better quality and some of fairly basic/poorer quality with crude or no engraving. Richards percussion shotgun I have, wondering its history and if its worth refurbishing it or if better left "as is" as a wall hanger.

I have a question about a breech loading W.
